The new multimodal terminal of the Batumi sea port was put into operation at full capacity. The regional scale project connects cargo from Central Asian countries to the markets of Europe and the rest of the world through Georgia. The multimodal terminal, which was built with an investment of 25 million dollars, is a project of the US corporation “Trammo” and the company “Wondernet Express Investment Group”.
Mamuka Murjikneli, the general director of the company, told “Business Partner” that the terminal has been operating at 100% capacity for several months and currently carries up to 80,000 tons of cargo every month. The main destination is Europe and South America.
“We are working on fertilizers. The main cargo we have now in the terminal is urea. We are glad that we were the first terminal in the history of Georgia to load dry cargo onto the largest ship. We were able to load more than 45 thousand tons,” Mamuka Murjikneli told “Business Partner”.
According to him, the demand for transportation of mineral fertilizers produced in Central Asia reaches 3 to 5 million tons annually. About 3 million tons of cargo will be transported through the Georgian corridor, and Batumi multimodal terminal plans to handle up to one and a half million tons of cargo by the end of the year.
